Houston Artists Create Murals to Share With Loved Ones During the Pandemic

In 2020, United By Design and Folding Chair planned a series of art projects that shared the experiences that individual artists encountered during a period of isolation and social distancing as a way to remain expressive and active during the Covid pandemic.

Creativity Cannot be Confined

The only traffic on the streets was essential travel and gathering necessities. We rallied with artists to create seven murals that people could quickly stop at, snap a selfie, and send a "digital selfie postcard" to their loved ones in a text message or on social media. These murals were an unintended part of the Satellites Art Project but quickly became a focus for people passing the walls at Graffiti Park in Houston, TX.

This entire mural project was volunteer-based – fueled by the passion of the artists and hosts – and funded by the artists and volunteers involved. Without them, these messages would not exist. A special thanks goes out to those involved.

About Satellites Art Project

In 2020, United By Design and Folding Chair collaborated to start a series of art projects to share experiences of individual artists during a period of isolation amidst the Covid pandemic. We asked Bill to create a piece of art that expressed his sentiment during the Shelter-In-Place lockdown order. This is what he created.
