“My Mom is in heaven so I thought to send her some balloons to show my LOVE for her! The mural is meant for her. She was a single parent that raised two boys never complained of the struggle or hardship!”

“There is something about the patterns and colors that I saw growing up at home; it brings me to a place of home, peace and community. With this mural, I experimented with those same patterns and colors to create a design that I’ve done before – but this time, at a larger scale. The design reveals the word “familia”, which at my core has always been a strong reason for why I make art today.”

“I’ve been passionately focusing on the mental well-being of the elderly during this pandemic. Many people are lucky enough to have grandparents, but still somehow neglect to call them. My mural is a friendly reminder to do so – and yes, perhaps it’s a little bit guilt-laden. The mural is subtly adorned with the poppy – the flower of remembrance. The message is meant for anyone and everyone with grandparents, or those who are privileged to enjoy the guidance and mentorship of an elder.”

“My mural design abstractly signifies the crossing of paths between people in life, and reminds people to see the big picture, LOVE BIG.  This is meant for all people; of all ages of all backgrounds. Remember to love people outside of yourself, like kids do! I hope this motivates Houston!”

“I wanted to create a piece that represents the city of Houston and the great community of people that live here. It is Love and Strength that helps our city go through hard times. So go, snap a pic, and send your love to a family member in another city or country and let’s keep encouraging each other!!”

“The mural I painted represents one of my biggest struggle through this period of isolation – to be apart from my family and friends. I chose to paint it because I think that I share that craving to interact, with millions of other people choosing to love from a distance. I hope people feel encouraged to share this message with those they love in a quick text!”

“With the theme of “family”, my thoughts immediately went back to the safest I’ve ever felt, as a child, and to the people I care dearly for, especially now. The photo in the mural, is of my grandparents; from way back when they were young parents. The photo, to me, beams with happiness, optimism and warmth. When I paint outdoors, I always want everybody to enjoy the art. I think that even without understanding the reasoning and meaning of it, people see a vintage, nostalgic photo – capturing a happy, carefree moment in the past – that could be anyone’s parents or grandparents, and take whatever they want from that image.”
