THE MISSION

Gensler–a global architecture, design, and planning firm–celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Houston office and the life of Art Gensler (1935-2021) with the unveiling of “Work of Art”, a 20x12 ft memorial to Gensler, created in partnership by United by Design. The installation aimed to embody the collaborative spirit Art Gensler cultivated with his “one-firm firm” model. It celebrated the past and looked toward the future of the firm’s local and global teams, a constellation of stars.

THE OUTCOME

We designed a mural comprised of 5,678 iridescent hoop rings. The rings were constructed by Gensler employees during a set of intimate team gatherings crafted to bring the constellation of employees closer together. The unveiling was met with the reveal of a generative architectural projection mapping experience introduced to animate the installation–changing the visual experience of the art throughout the day.

THE IMPACT
